Sonia D. Gatchair is an affiliate of the Technology Policy Assessment Center. She completed the doctoral program in the Georgia Tech, School of Public Policy in December 2007. Her research interests are on the use of technology, innovation and entrepreneurial strategies for economic development, with emphasis on developing countries or lagging regions; labor market issues; and policy evaluation. Current research activities include the examination of the distributional consequences of emerging technologies in various national contexts; and racial and ethnic inequalities in the US labor market. In her doctoral dissertation, she examined the effect of education on employment and wages of different racial and ethnic groups in high technology industries in the United States.

Before undertaking doctoral studies, Sonia worked on science and technology policy in the National Commission on Science and Technology Secretariat in Jamaica, where she was instrumental in the implementation of several projects including the Technology Investment Fund; the Science, Technology and Innovation Policy Review (with UNCTAD); and projects using ICTs for development with the International Institute for Communications and Development. Prior to working in the public sector, she worked for over 12 years in operations management in the manufacturing sector.

Sonia is a 2001-2002 Hubert H. Humphrey Fellow in Technology Policy and Management, Penn State University.
