Technology Association of Georgia Selects the Georgia Institute of Technology as Research Partner for the 2007 Report
Atlanta, GA, August 29, 2007
The Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) announced today that it has selected the Georgia Institute of Technology as the research partner for the 2007 State of the Industry: Technology in Georgia Report. Specifically, they will be working with Susan Cozzens (School of Public Policy) and Jan Youtie (Enterprise Innovation Institute), who will be providing the raw data and some of the analysis that will be used to comprise the report.
“We are very pleased to be partnering with Georgia Tech on this year’s State of the Industry Report,” said Melanie Brandt, Director of Community and Information Resources for TAG. “It’s clear to us that they see the continued release of a comprehensive guide to the technology industry in Georgia as an important component to the advancement of technology in the State; and we are more than confident that they will be able to deliver quality research for this project”.
“Technology is an important part of the story of economic development in Georgia, and we are glad to have a chance to help tell the story,” added Cozzens, who is Director of Georgia Tech’s Technology Policy and Assessment Center. “A growing number of states are developing indicators to describe their technology sectors and we are pleased to be part of this ongoing effort of TAG’s in Georgia,” noted Jan Youtie, Georgia Tech’s Enterprise Innovation Institute and director of the program in Science, Technology, and Innovation Policy.
In its second year of publication, the annual State of the Industry: Technology in Georgia Report will contain a robust set of statistics, critical trending information, and additional facts and figures on issues important to a variety of Georgia and National technology stakeholders. This including: local business leaders; corporations considering relocating their headquarters to Georgia; and the media. The 2006 report was highly acclaimed by both the local and national community. Additionally, the report was widely received, beginning with standing-room only sneak preview presentations at the 2006 ITEC and VON Enterprise conferences. TAG distributed CDs containing the report to 800 attendees of the Georgia Technology Summit in February of 2007. Partner sponsors including the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, the Georgia Research Alliance, and the Georgia Department of Economic Development also distributed the report to members of their individual constituencies. Nearly 500 individuals and companies have downloaded the report from the TAG website.
The 2007 report will be previewed in the fourth quarter of 2007, and will be formally released at the 2008 Georgia Technology Summit to be held in the first quarter of 2008. This year’s report will contain additional features such as a searchable, interactive index, information on IT spending trends for the state, statistics regarding women in technology in Georgia, and comparative state-by-state data on venture capital, employment, and University R&D trends. Confirmed 2007 sponsors include the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, the Georgia Department of Economic Development, the Georgia Research Alliance, Georgia Power, Spherion, TechCFO, and Morris, Manning & Martin.
“Supporting and growing the technology community in Georgia is important to us,” TAG President, Tino Mantella, adds. “The State of the Industry Report is another tool for our leaders to utilize to make informed decisions. We are happy to be able to develop the report again this year, and working with Georgia Tech is an added bonus.”
